Filin
Cheap ground-launched turbojet cruise missile
A new, low-cost cruise missile ('eagle owl') from AO NPO Molniya, part of the state-owned Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV). Ukraine's military intelligence agency HUR made it public on 22 Oct 2026 with a 3D model, an assembly breakdown and a component database on its War&Sanctions portal; according to HUR, Russia has been firing it at Ukraine since late summer 2026. It has a carbon-fibre and fibreglass composite airframe, partly 3D-printed, a Russian R500 turbojet and a Chinese inertial navigation system. HUR sees the Filin as the next step in a Russian trend towards cheap, jet-powered, ground-launched strike weapons. HUR did not say how many have been fired or what they hit. The performance figures are Russian claims relayed by HUR.

- HUR (War&Sanctions)
General
- Type
- Subsonic turbojet cruise missile, ground-launched with a solid-fuel booster
- Developer
- AO NPO Molniya (Tactical Missiles Corporation); onboard equipment from PLAZ LLC, which also supplies equipment for the Garpiya drone — HUR notes a similar layout and markings
- Use
- According to HUR, against Ukraine since late summer 2026; numbers and targets not disclosed

- Max range
- ≈ 325–650 NM (600–1,200 km), depending on configuration
- Speed
- up to ≈ 800 km/h (Russian claim)
- Flight altitude
- from ultra-low up to ≈ 19,700 ft (6 km)
- Warhead
- 50 or 100 kg; high-explosive fragmentation, penetrating or thermobaric (Defence Blog)
- Engine
- Russian R500 turbojet made by OOO Reynolds — the same engine HUR previously found in the S-71K Kover and S-71M Monokhrom
Guidance & components
- Navigation
- Chinese inertial navigation system plus a 16-channel Kometa anti-jamming satellite-navigation module (CRPA) from Russia's VNIIR-Progress
- Foreign parts
- Of 81 identified components, 35 are American and 22 Chinese — a larger Chinese share than in earlier Russian missiles and drones; suppliers include Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, NXP, STMicroelectronics, WinChipHead and Mornsun; some parts date from 2021–2022
Threat
- Effect
- Cheap long-range missile that, together with the Banderol, Dan-T/Dan-M and Gerbera-5, puts pressure on Ukraine's air defence and jet-powered interceptor drones (Serhii Beskrestnov, via Euromaidan Press)
- Countermeasure
- Subsonic and therefore interceptable by fighters, SHORAD and fast interceptor drones; the anti-jam CRPA makes jamming its satellite navigation harder
- Threat level
- Medium per missile, high as a cheap long-range mass weapon

«Крылатая ракета «Филин». Недорогое средство большой дальности» (Topwar: 'The Filin cruise missile: an inexpensive long-range weapon')
Topwar author Kirill Ryabov discusses the 'Filin' (Eagle-Owl), a new long-range ground-launched cruise missile. He relies almost entirely on material that Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) published on its War&Sanctions portal on 22 October: debris photos, a 3D model, a component list and estimated specifications. HUR says Russia has used the missile si…
