EW: jamming & GPS spoofing
Disrupting control and navigation
Jamming disrupts the radio signal between pilot and drone; GPS spoofing deceives navigation. Both are powerful against RF-controlled and GPS-dependent systems, but powerless against fibre-optic or AI-guided drones.

Ukraine's CODE 9.2 regiment flies two wounded soldiers out of the grey zone with SkyFall's StarGate drone, one leg nearly 30 km each way under GPS jamming
Ukraine's 475th Separate Assault Regiment (CODE 9.2) says it evacuated two wounded soldiers by air within a single week using the StarGate casualty-evacuation drone built by the Ukrainian company SkyFall. The casualties, Yevhen (call sign Izium, 25) and Artem (call sign Kolobok, 24), had severe limb injuries and were in the grey zone about 5 km from the Rus…

Kyiv's air defence crews struggle to keep pace with Russia's jet-powered Geran drones
A Kyiv Independent field report (26 October 2026), based on two days with Ukraine's 112th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade outside Kyiv, describes how jet-powered Geran drones, used against Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast since late summer, are straining the capital's layered air defence. Waves of jet drones now arrive day and night between larger mass assaults. S…

«Старлинки Илона Маска на дронах типа "Баба Яга" ВСУ» (Dva Mayora: 'Elon Musk's Starlinks on Ukrainian "Baba Yaga"-type drones')
In a series of posts on 25 October, the Telegram channel Dva Mayora responded to Elon Musk's statement that Ukraine's military had used Starlink for offensive drone strikes and that this "loophole" was closed last week. The channel agrees with Musk that the Ukrainian front would collapse if Starlink were switched off, but calls his claim of ignorance a lie,…

Ukraine's HUR unveils Filin, a new low-cost Russian ground-launched cruise missile with up to 1,200 km range, built with 35 US and 22 Chinese components and a Russian R500 turbojet
On 22 October 2026 Ukraine's military intelligence agency HUR published an interactive 3D model, an assembly breakdown and an electronic-component database of a new Russian cruise missile, the Filin ("eagle owl"), on its War&Sanctions portal. According to HUR, Russia began firing the missile at Ukraine in late summer 2026. It is developed by AO NPO Molniya,…

«[…] условно без "Старлинка". А что стало с нашими БПЛА, когда России отключили «серый» Starlink?» (Dva Majors: 'Ukraine nominally without Starlink. What happened to our UAVs when Russia lost "grey" Starlink?')
This is the personal/editorial voice of the Russian pro-war Telegram channel Dva Majors, not a position of the Russian MoD; milbloggers can contradict each other and the MoD, and the content has not been independently verified. Prompted by the new Starlink restrictions on Ukrainian forces, the channel (which uses a derogatory term for Ukrainians) recalls th…

«Ланцети», «Орлани» і «Князь»: Пілоти Signum за ніч знищили 25 російських безпілотників різних типів (ArmyInform: Lancets, Orlans and 'Knyaz' – Signum pilots destroyed 25 Russian drones of various types overnight)
Ukrainian state outlet ArmyInform reports that drone pilots of the Signum unit of the 57th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade shot down 25 Russian UAVs of various types during one night of 'air patrol' over Ukrainian territory, and released video of the engagements. The list given is eight Zala, four Lancet, five Supercam, four 'KVO', one Merlin, two Orlan…

Downed Geran-4 drones carry a 32-element, likely Alabuga-made anti-jam GNSS antenna, while Geran-4 and Geran-5 also get camera-based terrain navigation
A 32-element CRPA (Controlled Radiation Pattern Antenna) has been found in a Geran-4 strike drone shot down over Ukraine, Militarnyi reports, citing an analysis by The Insider of photos and videos of wreckage; the photos, taken in September 2026, are credited to Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov. The unit is effectively two 16-element antennas in one housing: 16 e…

Russia reportedly fields Geran-5 'K5' variant with autonomous optical (scene-matching) navigation and redesigned fuselage
Russian forces have reportedly begun using a new modification of the jet-powered Geran-5 strike UAV with an autonomous optical navigation system and a modified fuselage. The report comes from the monitoring Telegram channel Colonel GSh ("Polkovnik GSh"), which calls the variant the Geran-5 K5 and published a photo comparing the old and new airframes. Accord…

Новинки ВКС: больше бомб и новинка навигации
The Russian milblogger channel Dva Majora relays statements by Kirill Fedorov, made during a broadcast the previous day, that the Su-34 frontline bomber can now carry up to seven glide bombs. Fedorov is quoted describing a step-by-step increase: the aircraft started with one bomb, then two, then four, flew with four 'for quite a long time', after which two…

Ukraine combat experience shapes Redwire's new Penguin Mk3 drone
US defense company Redwire has delivered more than 250 of its Penguin reconnaissance drones — a Group 3 fixed-wing UAS with roughly 14 hours of endurance and EO/IR sensors for target recognition — to Ukraine since 2022, largely through US aid packages. That deployment generated a large body of operational data, now feeding into a next-generation variant: th…

Finland closes investigation into four armed Ukrainian strike drones that strayed into its territory in spring 2026
Finland's National Bureau of Investigation and the Finnish Border Guard have completed their inquiry into four incidents in spring 2026 in which Ukrainian military drones crossed into Finnish territory. According to the Finnish authorities, all four drones originated in Ukraine, were similar models manufactured for military use, and each carried an explosiv…

Defense Express: Germany only now seeks anti-satellite / GNSS-jamming capability, years into Russia's Kaliningrad spoofing
Defense Express reports that the Bundeswehr has tasked the German Space Agency with conducting market research for electronic warfare systems able to suppress satellite navigation and communications signals. The stated requirements cover jamming satellites in low, medium and geostationary orbits, coverage for a brigade-sized area of operations, and, as one…

Important for Americans to Know: Russia Improved Accuracy of Shahed UAVs While Iranian Ballistic Missiles Have Become More Effective, Deadlier
In an analysis/opinion piece (24 July 2026, explicitly addressed to a U.S. audience), Defense Express argues that Iranian Shahed-136 drones have become markedly more effective: more resistant to electronic warfare and accurate enough to strike the same target directly in the impact hole left by a previous hit. The concrete technical cause it cites is the 'K…
